(born 18 July 1982, is an Indian film actress, singer, and songwriter. She won Miss India and Miss World in 2000 before beginning her film acting career. Chopra has received various awards for her acting, including a National Film Award for Best Actress and Filmfare Awards in four distinct categories.
Chopra made her acting debut in 2002 with the Tamil film Thamizhan. The following year, she starred in The Hero, her first Bollywood release, and followed it with the box office hit Andaaz. She earned critical appraisal for her portrayal of a seductress in the 2004 thriller Aitraaz, and subsequently played the lead female role in several commercially successful films. Her portrayal of a troubled model in the 2008 drama film Fashion earned her wide critical acclaim and won her the National Film Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She was later noted for experimenting with different character types in the 2009 caper film Kaminey, the 2009 comedy What's Your Raashee?, the 2011 neo-noir 7 Khoon Maaf, and the 2012 romantic comedy-drama Barfi!. Chopra has established herself as a leading contemporary actress of Hindi cinema.
