The long and the short of trendy hairstyles for 2010 is that two extremes are fashionable. Both long extensions with bohemian waves and mini sleek bobs are in. There is also the addition of one particular color that is all set to become trendy and bangs are back in a big way.
Long Hairstyles for 2010
Pop princesses and celebrities have paved the way for lusciously long locks with an abundance of soft waves and movement. This look can be achieved by either growing your own hair long, or by speeding up the process and having extensions woven into your existing hair.
Waves can be made by using large curlers, or by tonging your hair loosely, rather than winding your hair tightly around the tongs. By using a protective serum before the tongs you can help to keep your hair or extensions in good condition so that it doesn't become brittle and cause breakages.
An extreme of the long hairstyle is where instead of softness with a romantic touch hair takes on more of a modern theme, with straight geometric bangs and with the ends of hair cut into points, curving in towards the wearers neck.
While Paris Hilton made the pony tail a style must have for those with long enough hair in 2009, now it is to be replaced with the sleek ballerina up-do, or bun. This style is suitable for both formal and leisure wear, and even for brides when accompanied by pretty floral or diamante circlet's.
Short Hairstyles for 2010
Celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Nicolle Richie made the bob haircut fashionable once more. A slight alteration with this style brings it up to date for 2010. Bobs are either mini, resembling the Mary Quant hairstyle from the 1960's, or medium length towards the sides near the front of the face, graduating to become shorter at the back.
While some bob styles use architectural styled designs as a main feature, with sharp angles and clean cut edges with shine, others are made with razor cut edges to create texture.
Curls are trendy for short hair with volume created towards the back and sides. This look suits individuals with long faces especially.
Bangs
Not many styles are without bangs for 2010. Certain haircuts incorporate blunt bangs which begin towards the back of the scalp and which have no real parting, whereas other bangs are side swept, which looks great on individuals with square, or round shaped faces.
Almost all bob styled cuts have accompanying bangs, some of which are designed to be angular and longer towards the front, but just off center.
Color
The main color for 2010, as not many others will stand out, is red. Not orange based red, but deep hues of red such as copper, russet and flame red. This color can be introduced as layered streaks to brown hair of various lengths, to create added visual dimensions to a style.
More artificial based colors will be unlikely to make much of an appearance, as subtlety and the natural look is the main trend for the color of hair in 2010.
